Bleed console 58

A recent addition to the Bleed series, a large four door console. The cabinets are made from cedar using steel nails. Stripped of their galvanized coating, the iron in the nails reacts with the tanins in the cedar to pronounce a graphic bleeding effect.

The staining on each cabinet is unique and has changed dramatically as I have developed the process over the years. This piece has very intense stainging towards the bottom where the ferrous material from the nails has gathered and then seeped back up the wood. I quite like the feeling that it looks similar to fire, but is caused by liquid. Down is up.

The ongoing series is shown with Sarah Myerscough Gallery www.sarahmyerscough.com
