Beam Cabinet

A jewellery cabinet created for Perimeter Gallery Paris to house the display of jewellery by Alexandra Jefford

The cabinet interior is cast around a rough wooden beam which has been removed leaving an interior with heavy wood grain texture. As with previous Palindrome works, the use of wood as a mould references architectural construction techniques. Here the item which is normally used to support structures, such as a lintel above a door, has become the supprted object. Its functionality inverted. The cabinet is constructed from a reinforced cementious/acrylic composite, with steel support structure. It has secure entry hatches on both ends.
